Crystal Methamphetamine Treatment

Dr. Karr, as Director of The Monarch Bear Institute, is developing a holistic healing treatment program for crystal methamphetamine addiction and for those in relationship with and affected by crystal methamphetamine users.

There is currently a major methamphetamine epidemic in the USA and especially in major cities such as San Francisco. The Institute is focused on developing comprehensive, holistic treatment approaches to the epidemic. It is The Institute's long term goal to develop a farm in the country as an inpatient treatment center for methamphetamine users from The City. We also desire to create an outpatient clinic in San Francisco itself.

We are particularly interested in developing programs for methamphetamine users who have been clean and sober for at least one year and for their partners and their families.

Connected to methamphetamine addiction are the joint addictions of love and sex addiction. The Institute wishes to develop a holistic and spiritual approach to sexual enhancement for users and their partners. A characteristic of many recovering methamphetamine users is a disconnection from sexuality and intimacy. Many methamphetamine users report that they are bored and disinterested in sexuality without the high of the drug. Methamphetamine users and their partners must learn new ways of being sexual in order to enjoy sexuality without methamphetamine.

Dr. Rodney G. Karr and Dr. Natalia Bolsheva each have over 25 years of clinical experience with human sexuality and crystal meth addiction treatment. They are working together to develop individual couple and group approaches to treatment for methamphetamine users and their significant others. They are leading the other Monarch Bear Institute members in the development of holistic treatments for this issue.

Dr. Karr is creating a group for men who have been clean of methamphetamine for one year and are wishing to develop and enhance their sexuality and intimacy. He also is developing a group for the partners of methamphetamine users.

Dr. Karr and his colleague, Natalia Bolsheva, Ph.D., are developing a treatment program for crystal methamphetamine users utilizing a variety of treatment modalities including anger management, meditation, body awareness, stress management, professional success enhancement, intimacy skills, sexuality enhancement, video therapy, communications skills, and other cognitive behavioral methods.
